EMELIE VOICES

This is the story of Prachi More, a 17-year-old highly determined and focused student, who has already charted a clear course for her future: to study Computer Science Engineering at one of India’s premier institutes. Her journey is defined not just by her outstanding academic records, but by the quiet, fierce determination she inherited from her greatest hero—her mother, Ms. Rajshri.

Prachi was just a toddler when her father passed away. The sudden loss plunged her mother’s world into shock and an immediate financial void. For two years, she navigated a fog of grief and uncertainty, processing the reality of becoming a single parent to Prachi and her younger brother

Yet, after two years of navigating grief, her mother made a firm promise to herself —to raise her two children with dignity, to educate them, and to create a better life for them. Prachi grew up watching her mother rebuild life from scratch. Without prior work experience, her mother began working as a domestic helper in Pune.

She moved to Pune, finding support from her maternal family, and made a decision that her children would have the best chance at life through education. She instilled in young Prachi the belief that studying was not just a means to an end, but the fundamental path to stability and a better future.

All She Dreams Of Is a Beautiful Life for Her Mother

As Prachi flourished in school, proving to be an excellent and determined student, Ms Rajshri stepped up, taking on household chores to earn a living. She shares that at the start, she didn't even know what the right amount to ask for her work was. But with a learning attitude and positive spirit, she met many supportive people who helped her learn the ropes.

For over a decade, a local Pune organisation, Madhav Ashram, provided essential support by distributing monthly grains and rations to single-mother-led families. Ms Rajshri shares that their support was instrumental. It meant that she didn't have to worry about the basic need for food, allowing her to invest every possible rupee she earned into her children’s education.

Prachi completed her 10th grade with excellent grades, and her sights were immediately set on the highly competitive JEE Mains exam, which she plans to take in 2027. Her dream is clear: to pursue Engineering from a premier institute and stand on her own feet so she can give her mother the life she deserves.

As Ms Rajshri navigated the challenge of finding and funding the right coaching classes for Prachi, a serendipitous meeting changed their course. Coming across The Emelie Foundation was, in Ms Rajshri’s words, a blessing. The timely financial aid for Prachi’s coaching fees eased a heavy burden off her shoulders. The Emelie Foundation is pleased to work with Prachi & support her in this journey.

Looking Ahead

Today, Prachi's world revolves around her studies. She is currently preparing for the next two years, committed to studying 7-8 hours a day outside of her coaching classes. She leaves home by 7 AM, takes a one-hour bus ride, and returns by 6 PM, focused entirely on mock tests and sample papers.

Initially, Prachi felt a moment of discouragement at the coaching centre, seeing many students who had been preparing for a long time. She shared her self-doubt with her mother. Ms Rajshri, serving as her inspiring anchor, simply told her to "make an honest attempt and give your fullest." This reinforced Prachi’s focus. Now, she is well-accustomed to the rigorous environment, beautifully giving her best without taking undue pressure. She believes that she just wants to make her best attempt with all her effort.

Her mother shares one core principle with her children: "Whatever you do ahead, I just share that having a good character and values are the most important things you have to live by." Prachi’s sincerity and determined focus truly reflect these values. At The Emelie Foundation, we are constantly inspired by students like Prachi—hardworking, sincere, and with a relentless drive to make their life better and become independent.

To Prachi, her mother’s support, and all the single mothers who stand as pillars of strength behind their daughters: we wish you the best, and we are with you!

THE EMELIE FOUNDATION CELEBRATES EACH ONE OF YOU!
